Effective May 11, 2020, Empire Life raised the limit for No Fluid/Non-Medical underwriting for our critical illness insurance as follows: · Ages 18 to 40 up to $250,000 · Ages 41 to 50 up to $99,999 · Ages 51+ - standard UW requirements apply (e.g. PHI & Vitals, BP) This is being implemented on a temporary basis in response to the COVID-19 pandemic and the need to provide solutions for customers that also support physical distancing and stay at home directives across Canada Visit our Retail Advisor Updates page for all of the latest COVID-19 updates. |

Address Changes and protecting our clients' personal information
Updating a client’s address correctly is a cornerstone in protecting their personal information from unauthorized parties. One small error in the client’s unit number or postal code can potentially cause significant harm to a client if their tax slip or policy contract is sent to and opened by the wrong recipient. Please help us meet our mutual privacy commitment to our customers by double-checking any address change data you share with us no matter what the method. Also, to reduce the risk of paper mailings, please encourage your clients to sign up for the online portal to retrieve e-statements. | ||||

Changes to the calculation of the 2020 required minimum withdrawal for registered retirement income funds (RRIF)
On March 25, 2020 a new set of economic measures became law to help stabilize the economy during this challenging period. One of these measures is to reduce the required minimum withdrawals from Registered Retirement Income Funds (RRIF’s) by 25% for 2020. These measures were delivered as part of the Government of Canada’s COVID-19 Economic Response Plan. |
